Classification of Copper Scrap

At Lu Xing Fu Metal Company, we recognise that copper scrap can be categorised based on purity and form. Here are the main classifications we use:

1. Bare Bright Copper
   This is the highest grade of copper scrap, consisting of pure copper without any coatings or alloys.

   • Characteristics: Clean copper wire with no oxidation, minimum diameter of 1/16 inch.
   • Copper Content: ≥ 99.9%.
      

2. #1 Copper
   This grade includes copper that is free from alloys and significant oxidation.

   • Characteristics: Comprises clean copper pipes, rods, and non-insulated wire.
   • Copper Content: ≥ 98%.
      

3. #2 Copper
   Although unalloyed, this type may feature some oxidation or coatings like paint or solder.

   • Characteristics: Consists of insulated copper wire, copper pipes with fittings, and dirty copper scrap.
   • Copper Content: 94–96%.
      

4. Light Copper
   This category refers to copper with a lower content typically derived from thinner materials.

   • Characteristics: Often includes items like downspouts or thin sheets of copper.
   • Copper Content: 88–92%.
      

Technical Properties of Copper

Copper is distinguished by several technical properties, making it a preferred choice across multiple industries:

• Electrical Conductivity: Aproximately 58 MS/m (megasiemens per metre), ranking just behind silver in conductivity.
• Thermal Conductivity: Approximately 401 W/m·K, demonstrating exceptional efficiency.
• Density: 8.96 g/cm³.
• Melting Point: 1,085°C.
• Brinell Hardness: Ranges from 35 to 110 HB, depending on the processing state.
• Recyclability: Copper can be recycled repeatedly without degradation of its basic characteristics.
